In the latest "Mythbusters" Adam Savage "Tested" video series, the host visited director Peter Jackson's home. The episode had the two of them going through the sci-fi director's collection of special effects props. Adam could not help but geek over the expanse of special effects memorabilia.
Before "Mythbusters" Adam Savage became occupied as editor and contributor to the "Tested" video series, he himself was a special effects artist and was a model maker for science fiction movies according to IndieWire.
In fact, "Mythbusters" Adam Savage "Tested" video series editor and host worked on the props for "Galaxy Quest," "The Matrix Reloaded," "Bicentennial Man," "Space Cowboys," and "Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones." He is most famous for the "Mythbusters" series which lasted from 2003 to 2016, reports revealed.
During the "Mythbusters" Adam Savage "Tested" video series, he was geeking out big time with the Original HAL 9000 faceplate. The piece is part of the HAL 9000 computer which was featured in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: "A Space Odyssey." In the movie, the HAL 9000 computer controlled the Discovery One spacecraft. The crew of the spacecraft was forced to unplug or disable the computer after it went rogue.
In Peter Jackson's collection, the faceplate also includes the "eye" of HAL 9000 which was made from an 8mm Nikkor fish-eye lens. Attached to the back of the lens is a snorkel-type attachment where the red light came from. The effect this gave was as if the red light was the eye of HAL 9000 while talking to person.
In a Rolling Stone interview, Peter admits to having the HAL 9000 eye for about 10 years, before the latest "Mythbusters" Adam Savage "Tested" video series came along and realized how to affix the lens to the faceplate. Both Adam and Peter have their own collection of movie props.
In "Mythbusters" Adam Savage "Tested" video series case, he also makes his own replicas. Peter's collection is more eclectic and includes a panda costume from an Australian commercial.
Peter Jackson says that the props for iconic movies inspire him with his own movies. Among his masterpieces are "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, as well as "The Hobbit.
