A Significant Fraction Of Children Suffering From Mental Illness Turned Away By Treatment Services

In an article by Ellen Wallwork, there's a quote "Too often support comes only when a child is on the brink of suicide." People can do no less but agree to it. Out of every four children, and people, with mental health problems, one is being denied the treatment he/she requires. Mental illness is mostly discovered in children of ages between 5 - 16 years.

One in every 10 children is suffering with a mental health condition, which makes three problematic children in every classroom. However, according to the Huffington Post, around 23% of children referred for treatment aren't getting any. The reason for this is that mental health facilities don't have much staff and there's a difficulty in recruiting new members. Also, there's a failure in receiving government funds, which decreases the ability of such facilities.

Moreover, every area has its own fixed waiting time that has to be surpassed before any treatment begins. Yet, it's not realized that many children, who are being brought for treatment, have already been going through enough waiting time, so they have to be considered seriously. For some children, the waiting process leads them to such a critical situation that they resort to nothing more, but taking their own life.

According to The Independent, urgent action has to be taken in order to ensure that these kids receive the right treatment at the right time. The government should make sure that the money ends up in the right place. Mental hospitals should let go of the long waiting time for everyone and treat every individual separately with the serious attitude he/she requires.

Additionally, a Research institute can be established for mental care exploration, which can also provide training to interested members. School curriculum and digital media can feature mental education teaching. Strategies to empower young people and parents can also prove to be fruitful.
