Last year, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that an unnamed Ridley Scott film is set to be released on March 4, 2016. Although the film remains a secret, many believed that it was referring to "Prometheus 2", according to SciFied. Shortly after, A report from The Wrap reveals that 20th Century Fox has announced that "Prometheus 2" will be released in March 2016 and that another writer, Michael Green will rewrite the screenplay for the sequel.
However, since they made the announcement, the production of the said film remains a hush-hush, and now, it is impossible to meet the reported released date after it was learned that the production will commence in January of 2016. This was revealed in an article where Scott was interviewed by Total Film while promoting Matt Damon's sci-fi thriller, "The Martian" according to a new update from SciFied.
In the same interview, Scott revealed his joy of returning to the genre, "I've got back into the sci-fi thing, I kind of adore it."
The upcoming franchise will be getting away from gods and dragons and won't be featuring the fan-favorite alien, Xenomorphs. "The beast is done," Scott said in an earlier report from ComingSoon.net.
However, with the absence of aliens it will introduce two new monsters similar to the Xenomorphs as Scott revealed during an interview with The Australian while promoting his movie "Exodus." Scottt said, "[The original Alien was] the definitive dragon and he's a mother. The alien's real which is why it's probably one of the scariest monsters in film history. So with Prometheus 2, what I'm trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act."
According to CrossMap, "Prometheus 2" will have the title "Hell on Earth," and from the name itself, it will be based on Earth. Moreover, the adventure will turn around the pursuit of new species called "The Engineers," whose origins will be discovered by Dr.Elizabeth Shaw and android David.
A report from The Telegraph reveals that Dr. Shaw may lose her life in her search for the origin of "The Engineers," which is referred as "Paradise." The Engineers are the super-tall, pale, veiny creatures that created the human race, but in the sequel, for reasons not yet disclosed, these creatures decided to wipe out humanity. There are rumors that another major female character will come alive after Dr. Shaw.
Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are set to reprise their roles. "Prometheus 2" is a sequel to the 2012 film "Prometheus," which grossed $400 million at the box office internationally, making it the highest grossing "Alien" franchise, according to ComingSoon.net.
