Frank Ocean Didn’t Submit His Album ‘Blonde’ For Grammy’s Amid Kanye West’s Boycott Threats

It seems that the Grammy Awards can be assured Kanye West's boycott threats will never happen as Frank Ocean reveals he didn't submit his album "Blonde" to the award-giving body. Despite having won two Grammys three years ago, Frank Ocean's response as to why the Grammy's no longer interest him is a highly controversial topic.

In a rare interview with the New York Times, Frank Ocean didn't submit his album "Blonde" for consideration simply because even though "that institution certainly has nostalgic importance, it just doesn't seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down." Kanye West's boycott threats seem to be grounded on the fear that the Grammy's will be given to an undeserving nominee.

Frank Ocean pointed to his observation that only a small number of African-Americans have won the Album of the Year award at the Grammy's. This inconsistency within the Grammy's awarding system is perhaps one of the reasons why Frank Ocean didn't submit his album "Blonde" to the committee.

"I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated. I'd rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience," Ocean said during the interview.

Kanye West's boycott threats was first heard during one of his concerts in Oakland and explicitly said he would snub the Grammy's if Ocean's album "Blonde" was nominated. Ever since it has been revealed that Frank Ocean didn't submit his album "Blonde" for the Grammy's, everyone is holding their breaths waiting for West to react.

He explained that the album he listened to the most in 2016 is Frank Ocean's album "Blonde." "I tell you what, if his album's not nominated in no categories, I'm not showing up to the Grammys," he said.
