"The Last Guardian" is finally nearing its big launch date. Fumito Ueda, the creator of the game, answered some of the questions in an interview posted at the PlayStation's Blog page.
"The Last Guardian" creator states that both Sony and Gendesign poured every ounce of energy they had towards the project. Trico is a hybrid of sorts, which was based on his experience and memories growing up. Trico is basically Ueda's depiction of the interaction he had with the animals around him and the animal's reaction to him.
Fumito Ueda also gave a hint about the connection between "Shadow of the Colossus," "Ico," and "The Last Guardian." "The way I see it, maybe they are from the same world or the same universe. But anything further than that is really up to the player's imagination. Everyone has a different level of relationship with the two previous titles, so we wouldn't dictate that it is or it isn't. It's up to the player," he said in the trailer released on PlayStation.Blog.
The connection between "The Last Guardian" and "The Shadow of the Colossus" spawned among the community a long time ago. The theory was formed during the discovery that "Shadow of the Colossus" is the predecessor of "Ico." Fumito Ueda's answer to the question about the game's relation to each other is very broad.
Fumito Ueda wants the player to have freedom in exploring and discovering the secrets of the world he created. "The Last Guardian," "Ico," and "Shadow of the Colossus" could be a part of an even larger plot. The common connection could also be between the worlds the three games inhabit, a world created by Ueda.
Another possibility is that "The Last Guardian" could also be the missing link between Ueda's three beautifully crafted creations. Formulating this speculation could justify what could be Fumito Ueda's main goal, not to leave the player hanging but to continue the exploration thru the player's imagination.
