A couple of years ago, there were speculations that a new "Mafia" game was in development. However, there were no concrete updates as to how things were progressing until last week, when a tweet from Mafia Game confirmed it, announcing the worldwide reveal of the trailer for its third installment, "Mafia 3."
The "Mafia" series, a third-person shooter video game portrays organized crime including assassination, extortion and bootlegging, to name a few. Previous installments of the "Mafia" series have focused on Italian mobs, but its newest installment will take the series in a new direction that many did not expect, according to GameSpot. Although the story does not revolve around Italian mobs, they are still present in the game.
"Mafia 3" is set in New Orleans in 1968. It stars a new lead protagonist named Lincoln Clay, an orphan who is searching for a family to belong to. Without parents to guide him, he grew up seeking companionship from different kinds of people and groups including gangs, churches and the army.
Lincoln found a family in the army, according to IGN. The lead character in the game is a black Vietnam veteran. After returning from the Vietnam war, he joined the black mob and they became his new family. The black mob had ties with the Mafia, but things did not go well. The Italian mob wiped out the black mob, shot Lincoln in the head and left him to die.
The incident trigger Lincoln to fight back as he teams up with a small group and organizes the fall of the Italian mob in New Orleans. The game was set at a time when racial discrimination was still a very hot issue in America. On the same year, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and the public was desperate to end the struggle in Vietnam. Clay, who was both black and a Vietnam war veteran, is subject to do the same conflict, GameSpot reports.
The gamer who will be maneuvering Clay can assign several gang leaders as lieutenants for his growing criminal empire. Among the possible deputies are Cassandra and her Haitians, Burke and his Irish and "Mafia 2's" protagonist Vito Scaletta with his Italian gang. These lieutenants can give special abilities or assist in unlocking the game if the player "shows them favor." Otherwise, they will fight or turn against the player, IGN has learned.
With its amazing and exciting trailer, for sure, many gamers want to know when it will be released. According to Kotaku, "Mafia 3" will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2016
