'The Crown' Renewed: Netflix Boss Wants 6 Seasons, 8-10 Years Of Royal Drama; Season 2 Production Ongoing

Two weeks after Netflix launched the first season of "The Crown" and the streaming platform is already confident about the show lasting until Season 6. Netflix boss Ted Sarandos expressed that the company would like the royal drama to exist for eight to 10 years more. He also confirmed that "The Crown" Season 2 is already in production.

Dubbed the most expensive show that Netflix has made so far, "The Crown" tackles the life of Queen Elizabeth II with Season 1 mapping her first years as the monarch. Written and created by Peter Morgan, "The Crown" is expected to delve into the queen's life per decade.

"The idea is to do this over six decades, in six seasons presumably," Netflix's Ted Sarandos told The Hollywood Reporter about their plan for "The Crown." "[We'll] make the whole show over eight to 10 years," he added.

The Netflix boss also confirmed that production for "The Crown" Season 2 has been active. Actress Claire Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth II, told Vanity Fair that they have done work for over a month now, even before Netflix released "The Crown" Season 1.

"We get into the 60s, and it is a whole other world happening," Claire Foy revealed. "When we first started shooting, and it hadn't come out, we were like, 'Oh god, what if they hate it?" she adds. "Then we'll [still have to film a second season] knowing that everyone hated it."

"The Crown" also stars Matt Smith as Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II's husband of 69 years. Vanessa Kirby plays Princess Margaret, the queen's only sister, while Victoria Hamilton plays the Queen Mother.

"The Crown" Season 1 was released on Netflix on Friday, Nov. 4 with 10 episodes. The platform has yet to announce the premiere date of Season 2, so keep checking back to this site for the updates.
