'Downton Abbey' Season 6 Spoilers: Producer Talks Tragic Ending -- What Fans Need To Know For The Finale

Downton Abbey, the drama that got viewers hooked on, is going to end in the upcoming sixth season that will air on January 3, 2016.

However, it won't be a happy ending for everybody.

As written in an earlier article on Parent Herald, rumor has it that there will be at least one wedding and one funeral.

Rob James-Collier, who plays the role of under-butler Thomas Barrow, said to Daily Mail, "I can probably guarantee a wedding, the odd funeral or two or nine."

More than just that, it's the way of life shown in the series that's going to change.

According to TV Guide, the way of life in Downton Abbey, situated in Post-Edwardian England, shows that bloodline determines one's status and fleets of servants run households, but this is slowly vanishing.

Executive producer, Gareth Neame says, "That was the trajectory of those houses," referring to the way of life portrayed in the drama which will slowly come to an end.

"They didn't continue forever, they weren't financially viable. So in this final season, we will see the way of life we've all enjoyed watching in that show starting to change and evolve in a new way," he adds.

The cast has also expressed their sentiments regarding the series.

Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith, said to Entertainment Weekly, "It's strange saying goodbye to the castle."

"It felt like, for a split second, it wasn't our home anymore - and, of course, it never was our home, but it felt like it. As soon as they said 'cut' on that day, you realized it was just pretend. It was very emotional; we didn't want to leave," Carmichael adds.

In a report from Vanity Fair, Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, says, "Laura and I wandered around for the last time . . . we didn't want to leave."

"We went and sat on [character] Matthew's bench," Dockery adds.

"And we had a good cry," adds Carmichael.

As the series ends, maybe fans will have that "good cry" too.

"We've got 20 or so main characters. There's a lot to get done in these final nine episodes," Neame continues in the TV Guide report.

"This is ultimately a happy show that people love, so I don't think we're going to end with lightning striking the house and the house is exploded or something. But not everyone will have a happy ending."

Downton Abbey season 6 airs on January 3.
