"Elementary" Season 5 will have 24 full episodes. This was confirmed after TV network CBS ordered two additional episodes for the Sherlock Holmes-inspired series. It was earlier reported that the fifth season of the Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller starrer will only have 22 episodes.

The confirmation of 24 episodes for "Elementary" Season 5 also allays some rumors that this will be the final season for the drama. In "Elementary," Miller plays eccentric but brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes, true to the character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The real spin is in casting Liu as Sherlock's partner Watson who is supposed to be a male doctor and war veteran.
Earlier reports also hinted at the possible return of Moriarty in "Elementary" Season 5. Moriarty is Sherlock Holmes' famed nemesis. But in this modern version, Moriarty is also a woman. In earlier seasons of "Elementary," Sherlock's love for Moriarty nearly drove him mad. However, he finally found out that his enemy, Moriarty, has been Irene Adler all along. Moriarty's character has been imprisoned, but she is still mentioned in conversations between Sherlock and Watson in "Elementary" Season 5.
According to speculation, Sherlock could approach Moriarty in "Elementary" Season 5 for a consultation. It can be recalled that Sherlock considered Moriarty as the only person who can equal his skill and intellect. Other reports say that Moriarty will be released from prison in "Elementary" Season 5. Either scenarios are possible, but what remains true is that the first meeting between Sherlock and Moriarty will be an explosive one.
