‘The Walking Dead’ Movie Will Happen, Says Scott Gimple; William Shatner To Play As Rick?

"The Walking Dead" movie would seem like a good concept because of the popularity of the TV series. Scott Gimple, writer of the series, shared his thoughts.

In an interview with Brandon Davis from ComicBook.com, Scott Gimple's answer when asked about the possibility of The Walking Dead movie was: "That question comes up every now and again, I'm sure one way or another, one day, it'll happen. I think it would be cool." The wordsmith of the popular series also joked about having William Shatner playing as Rick, Edward James Olmos as Daryl and Matthew Fox as the governor.

The brainchild of Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Robert Moore, "The Walking Dead" has always been one of the best concepts in the zombie-infested horror section of the entertainment industry. Published by Image comics in 2003, under the post-apocalyptic genre, "The Walking Dead" started out as a comic book, a two-time Eisner Awardee during the 2007 and 2010 Comic-con in San Diego, based on the article by DreadCentral.

"The Walking Dead" concept was then adapted by AMC and ported it to primetime. By the time the comic book was about to receive its second Eisner Awards in Comic-Con 2010, scenes from the pilot episodes were shown during the convention. Even though the pilot was leaked two weeks before the premiere, The Walking Dead still got an ample share of attention it deserved.

"The Walking Dead" has ventured into almost every known category related to entertainment, except for the big screen. A concept like "The Walking Dead Movie" is going to be a challenge for the producers unless it's going to be a spin-off the series. With seven seasons under its title compressed into two or three hours of film will either become one of those mediocre films based on a television series or the crew can pull it off and become an epic addition to "The Walking Dead" collection.
