A daycare owner who attempted to hang a toddler was arrested by authorities in Minneapolis. Nataliia Karia, 42, tried to flee the scene when her attempt towards the 16-month-old baby failed.
Another parent who was dropping off her child at Nataliia Karia's Uptown Daycare heard the toddler's cries and saw that the boy has been hanging on a noose in the basement. The daycare owner was no longer in the scene, The Washington Post reports.
Ambulance rushed the toddler to a nearby hospital for treatment and observation. According to Star Tribune, he's supposedly "doing fine" after what police describes as a "horrific" incident.
A few blocks from the daycare center, the Minneapolis Police Department received calls about a woman causing a rampage. While driving a gold minivan, witnesses saw how he hit two men who were also later treated at a hospital. She also bumped a pregnant woman's car, who was unharmed but shaken from the incident.
The rampage occurred for at least 25 minutes before Nataliia Karia was arrested. According to witnesses, she also attempted to jump off a bridge and was visibly distressed. Police confirmed that the daycare owner was also evaluated at a hospital before being sent to the Hennepin County Jail. The authorities released a statement on Facebook.
Uptown Daycare is also under investigation along with Nataliia Karia. According to KTSP, the site has a license to operate and has done so since 2009. But following the incident, the daycare's license was immediately revoked.
The parents of the children who also go to the daycare were notified by the authorities. Chaplains working with the police were on the site to assist parents in case they have questions about what happened. But at the moment, police still do not know what caused the daycare owner to hang the toddler. Her case is still under investigation.
