Fans of DC Comics and CW's "The Flash," good news comes as the upcoming season 2 that will air on October 6 introduces new characters.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Australian actor, Keiynan Lonsdale, will be joining the cast of The Flash for season 2 and will play the role of DC comics' iconic Wally West, also known as the speedster "Kid Flash."
Lonsdale is more known for playing the role of Uriah in the "Divergent" sequel, "Insurgent," alongside Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg shows the reveal in a twitter post: "Welcome to the Speed Force, @KeiynanLonsdale! #WallyWest #TheFlash"
"Just like when we met Grant for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero," Kreisberg said of Lonsdale's casting. "We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show."
Lonsdale will be a regular in the show.
Comic book followers will know that Wally is Iris West's (played by Candice Patton) nephew. Iris is the love interest of Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash (played by Grant Gustin). Wally is also known as a founding member of the Teen Titans, and later takes on the role of the Flash.
Variety reports that Wally's connection to the West family has to be confirmed, since Iris doesn't seem to have any known siblings in the CW show. It is possible that Wally's origin will be tweaked for his debut.
Comic-Con reports Teddy Sears will also be part of the cast and will play Jay Garrick, who in comic book lore was "the original fastest man alive" as Hollywood Reporter puts it.
Shantel VanSanten is also cast as Patty Spivot, a female detective who becomes Det. Joe West's new partner. She'll become the first major female police officer in the show.
It was also revealed that season 2's major antagonist will be Professor Zoom, aka Reverse-Flash.
Lonsdale's role follows two recent additions to cast of "The Flash" and "Arrow" spinoff series "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."
Lonsdale is represented by Silver Lining Entertainment, ICM, Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams, and Persona PR.
The season cast will also have Casper Crump as the immortal villain Vandal Savage, and Falk Hentschel as Carter Hall/Hawkman.
The Flash season 2 premieres October 6.
