‘Dune’ Movie in the Works: Legendary Sci-Fi Movie to be Produced by ‘Warcraft’ Movie Producers

"Dune," considered as one of the greatest science fiction book series, is about to make a comeback. The "Dune" movie project has already received the green light. The "Dune" movie adaptation of the legendary science fiction book series will be produced by Cale Boyter, Thomas Tull, and Mary Parent.

IGN reports that Legendary Pictures, the outfit behind the movie "Warcraft," has bought the rights from Frank Herbert's estate to produce the "Dune" movie. The agreement means that Legendary Pictures can develop films, TV projects, and animation production. The "Dune" book series was not only a science fiction saga of a galactic proportions, it also spanned millennia.

"Dune" has been described as a story of global and planetary politics. It is also a cautionary ecological tale. There were six books in the "Dune" series written by Frank Herbert. After his death, the prequels were written by his son, Brian Herbert, and based on the notes left by Frank.

According to Comicbook, "Dune," the book series, is one of the hardest movies or series to film. Nonetheless, there have been attempts to create the movie and be as faithful as possible to the novels.

"Dune" was adapted as a movie and released in 1984. This however failed to meet expectations both from critics and in the box office. "Frank Herbert's Dune" was a mini-series on the SyFy channel shown on 2000.

It was followed by "Frank Herbert's Children of Dune" in 2003, which was based on "Dune Messiah" and "Children of Dune." These two mini-series were well-received by critics and viewers.

The "Dune" novels are hard to realize onscreen due to the heavy reliance on side text, within the novels. These were either explanations and quotations in the form of excerpts from printed works within the Dune universe. In most instances, the story would not make any sense without these interpolations of the material. The "Dune" movie is under a lot of pressure to meet expectations - both in the storyline and in the cinematography.
