After a long wait, people in New York City can finally buy their own Snapchat Spectacles as the "pop-up" Snapchat Spectacles store has finally arrived. The store is set up at 5 east 59th street, beside the Apple's flagship store.
According to The Verge, the Snapchat Spectacles pop-up store in New York is the first store in the east coast after it started on the West Coast through California. Like all of Snapchat Spectacles stores, the New York store isn't permanent and would only be there until the New Year's Eve.
Inside the temporary Snapchat Spectacles store, there's only one snapbot, a yellow vending machine that dispenses Spectacles. A pair of Snapchat Spectacles costs $130 and a customer is limited to only buying two. The Snapchat Spectacles store will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Some reports of payment issues have also popped up when using debit cards in the snapbot, causing the card to decline the transaction. Only remedy for this, per a report, is to call up the bank to allow the transaction.
The Snapchat Spectacles have been a huge hype on the Internet. These are big, stylish shades with a small camera attached to it that connects to the Snapchat app on the smartphone. The camera takes short, ten-second videos or "snaps" in a circular format that can be uploaded on Snapchat.
CNET reported that unlike the Snapchat app on the smartphone that has augmented reality filters, the Snapchat Spectacles have more of a "GoPro" feel to them. But users can still apply filters to the video through the Snapchat app.
The Snapchat Spectacles comes with an eyeglass case that doubles up as a charging station. Also, the Snapchat Spectacles are compatible with the iPhone 5 and above models running on iOS 8 and later. On the iPhone SE, it's best to try the Snapchat Spectacles when running on iOS 10.
For android devices, anything running on Android 4.3 and above and has Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi Direct should run the Snapchat Spectacles smoothly. Wearable cameras are not a new innovation.
In 2010, Pivothead its first eyewear with a built-in camera, but unlike the Snapchat Spectacle, it was simple and the camera is located at the bridge of the glasses.
