The once giant leader of phones, Nokia, which still remains the favorite brand of millions of users is all set to make a striking comeback and has officially announced its return to the smartphone market in the year 2017.
Nokia, which was the leading phone manufacturer for more than a decade, was taken over by Microsoft. It has remained shut since then for the last two years. But now, the company will be making a strong comeback through a partnership with HMD Global, a Finnish company. With this, the two-year contract between Nokia and Microsoft comes to an end.
According to reports by the Huffington Post, Nokia presented a deal at the Capital Markets Day, which confirmed the re-entry of the company into the market and also hinted an expansion of the company into VR technology. Nokia has officially announced that it will grant HMD Global the exclusive global license to produce Nokia smartphones and tablets for the next 10 years.
Reports by TechRadar indicate that the Nokia CEO, Rajeev Suri will be speaking at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) which is scheduled to be held in Barcelona, Spain, early next year. Rumors insinuate the launch of three new android smartphones in the next year. One of the devices is speculated to be called as Nokia D1C. The other two phones will be high-end flagships while the D1C will be a mid-range device.
It is expected that D1C will come with a 5.5-inch HD display and a RAM of 3 GB. This device by Nokia will be powered by a Qualcomm snapdragon 430 processor. The storage capacity of the device is expected to be 32GB and the phone comes with a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. It will be running on Android Nougat 7.0 operating system.
This would be a welcoming change as the company previously stuck to the windows operating system which did not quite turn out to be popular amongst the users. The switch to Android coupled with the previous standards of the Nokia brand is sure to gather positive responses in the market.
