Research also revealed that modern lifestyle does not allow much space for fitness and outdoors. It is a fact that children spend more times in front of screens than earlier.
The research included 38 countries and England, Scotland and Wales have the most number of inactive kids. Health experts say that the importance of exercise is underestimated and if exercise were a pill, it would have done wonders for the body.
The government suggests that a moderate intensity physical activity for an hour daily is appropriate for the kids. However, many young children do not follow this routine.
Another report related to unhealthy habits of British children is published in News Medical. It tells that children in the United Kingdom are consuming more sugar than recommended. Sugary drinks are the major causes of obesity in children and adults.
According to the studies, obese children are more likely to grow into obese adults. But weight gain does not only affect a person's daily life but also increase the risk of cancer and other diseases.
Alison Cox, the director of prevention at the Cancer Research U.K., stated that the amount of sugar consumption is alarming and the government should take more steps to educate people on this issue. Cox also expressed that sugar content in the processed foods should be limited and its time to introduce plans to keep U.K. safe from this menace, a plan that can only work with the initiation by the British government.
