Marijuana Legalization News Updates: Donald Trump Supports Legalization But His Attorney General, Senator Jeff Sessions Objects?

The legalization of marijuana deems to be a controversial issue for majority of US citizens, especially now that a new president sits at the White House. Reports believe that the issue seems to have a green light from the newly elected president Donald Trump, but his chosen attorney general, senator Jeff Sessions seems to object.

Some states of America have already legalized the use of marijuana while other states are still contemplating on the issue. The marijuana legalization has been debated on and scrutinized over the past years, and new reports claim that it is most likely that the other states of America will soon legalize the use of weeds, just like what California, Alaska, Oregon, Colorado and other states have done.

President Donald Trump seems to have hinted on his approval when he told The Washington Post that the legalization of marijuana should be decided on by each state. Trump believes that each state has its own prerogative to legalize the use of weeds depending on its needs and individuality. Trump mentioned that the legalization of weeds is a state issue, and not of a national legalization effort. In addition, Trump emphasized that he has full support on the use of marijuana for medical purposes, to help those who are very sick.

Meanwhile, Trump has previously aired his stand on the legalization of drugs, back in 1990. In a luncheon meeting in Florida, Trump said that America can win over the war on drugs if it will be legalized. The then business tycoon emphasized that it is important to gain the profit away from the drug czars and utilize the money that will be collected to further teach the public regarding the hazards of drug use.

However, Donald Trump's attorney general, Alabama senator Jeff Sessions is reportedly against the legalization of marijuana. Senator Sessions mentioned that the states where marijuana has been legalized are already experiencing some disturbance. Hence, Sessions is now speculated to terminate the law that protects any state from legalizing marijuana, Quartz reported.
