An episode of "Law and Order: SVU" featuring a Donald Trump-like presidential candidate was supposed to air last October for the show's Season 18. However, due to the U.S. elections, the controversial episode was scrapped. Will it finally air soon?
Entitled "Unstoppable," the said episode revolves around a presidential candidate who rather resembles Trump. Portrayed by Gary Cole from "Veep," the character encounters a scandal during his election.
The scandal involves accusations that the presidentiable has molested an underage girl. From here, the episode shows his campaign and possibly resolving the case of the candidate, TV Line reports.
Now that the real Trump has won the U.S. elections, will the "Law and Order: SVU" episode finally air?
Reportedly, NBC pushed the episode to avoid conflict between the campaign and “Law and Order." Specifically, the network did not want to possibly influence the outcome of the U.S. elections.
The decision to put on hold is also because of the sexual allegations made against Trump. It can be recalled that Trump and Billy Bush “raunchily” talked about women as detailed in the audio and video recordings made in 2005.
With this, according to sources, NBC is still assessing the episode. Even though they had scrutinized the episode pre- and post-production, there’s an indication that it won’t hit screens, for good, Deadline reports.
For now, there are rumors stating that the episode might finally be shown once “Law and Order: SVU” Season 18 returns on air on Jan. 4. However, some fans think that “Unstoppable” episode is still unsuitable for airing, as Trump is yet to take his inauguration also in January.
