The BlackBerry DTEK50 clearly did not win the hearts of many critics. Experts have given the device a mediocre rating, even citing the BlackBerry Priv as a better option considering the DTEK50 was released later than the Priv. Is it still worth keeping on 2016 or does it need to finally take a hike?
According to Engadget, the BlackBerry DTEK50 has an octa-core Snapdragon 617 chipset with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU. This device has no physical keyboard compared to the slider phone, Priv.
It also comes with a 5.2inch, 1080p IPS LCD Touchscreen. The speakers are also decent which can play good music without help from any external enhancement device.
The front facing camera is also quite impressive, it being 8MP. The main camera has 13MP, quite a disappointment as there are other mobile devices come with better MP for fraction of the cost.
The BlackBerry DTEK50 also is being marketed by the Canadian-based company as the most secured phone when it was released. Did it live up to its branding? It is surprising that for a "very secured" device, this does not come with a fingerprint scanner.
BlackBerry, however, is quick to answer as many would ask that question. The reason for the absence of fingerprint scanner on BlackBerry DTEK50 is for practicality. The company had to pass on the fingerprint sensor technology to keep its price down.
This may also explain why this device only comes with 16GB internal storage. This is not a good thing as many buyers use their phones not only for messaging, calling and browsing but also for storing videos and photos. 16MB just won't make the cut as it is too small a storage.
As added by CNET, the BlackBerry DTEK50 is described as a standard phone with some software tweaks. This phone is also considered a clone. Why? Because it looks almost as identical as Alcatel Idol.
During the time BlackBerry DTEK50 was released, it did not have good reviews. This device, if even still available has already been left behind. Is this a phone to be considered on Nov. 2016? No. Should it need an upgrade on Nov. 2016? Yes, and fast.
