The newest Disney film "Moana" just raked in a shocking $15.7 million at the box office on the Thanksgiving Eve. It has beaten the $15.2 million record of 2013 Disney film "Frozen."
With that success, Moana is expected to beat Frozen's five-day record of $93.5 million, as per Box Office Mojo who facilitates the tracking in film earnings. They estimated that Moana could gain a $94 million in the five-day long weekend given that it is rated in Rotten Tomatoes 97%.
According to Mail Online, it is quite an achievement for the first timer Auli'I Cravalho, the voice behind Moana, a South Seas Island girl who on an epic journey to find a magical stone to save her home. In this journey, Moana is accompanied by her hero, a demi-god Maui, who is voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Hundreds of young girls auditioned to be Moana but Rachel Sutton discovered last Auli'I when singing in a local charity competition. The first-timer Auli'l just turned 16 last Tuesday. She's from the town of Mililani on the Hawaiian Island of O'ahu.
Moana got a lot of buzz in the social media; it held its premiere night at El Capitan in Hollywood with all the main voice cast in attendance last Nov. 14.
Last Sunday a barrage of celebrities brought along their children to watch the screening in New York including Neil Patrick Harris husband David Burtka with their six-year-old twins Harper and Gideon, Josh Lucas with his ex-wife Jessica Ciencin Henriquez with their four-year-old son Noah Rev Maurer. Also adding in the crowd are Jason Biggs with wife Jenny Mollen with their two-year-old son Sid, Alysia Reiner and husband David Alan Basche, Malin Akerman and Jeffrey Tambor.
