Breastfeeding Celebrity Moms Take A Stand: What These Famous Women Did & Said About Public Breastfeeding That Sparked Controversy

Breastfeeding might be the most natural method for nourishing a baby but doing this in public is still a sensitive act for many. Celebrity moms, however, are taking a stand and shunning norms and shaming. Who are these famous moms who have taken a stand for public breastfeeding and what did they do or say?

They sparked controversy when they publicly breastfed, more so because they are widely-recognized personalities. But how they managed could serve as an inspiration for other moms to press on with breastfeeding regardless of what others say.

Olivia Wilde, a mom of two, is not shy about public breastfeeding and have been photographed with her baby while doing a shoot with Glamour in 2014. The "BoJack Horseman" actress also loves sharing brelfies (breastfeeding selfies) on her Instagram despite being shamed for it by followers. In fact, she recently shared a shot of her feeding her baby, Daisey.

In 2012, pop singer Pink got into a fight over public breastfeeding. She was in a restaurant nursing her daughter, Willow, with a cover when a man expressed her disgust. "You didn't get enough hugs when you were little," the multi-Grammy winner shot back at the man, according to Today. She believes breastfeeding is "healthy and natural" and she won't hesitate to fight for her right to do so.

Model Chrissy Teigen also loves sharing her brelfies of her and daughter Luna on social media. She once participated in a music video for Black Eyed Peas' Fergie by breastfeeding. She didn't mind that this was included because when they shot her scenes, Luna was in the middle of her lunch, Independent reports. It was the most natural thing to see.

Alyssa Milano, another mom with two kids, is a self-confessed breastfeeding advocate who got into a hot debate on "The Wendy Williams" show over the topic of public breastfeeding. The "Charmed" star debunks the sexualization of the breasts that makes others uncomfortable when they see moms feeding in public. "Biologically, they're not made for sexual things," the actress said, according to Daily Mail.

During a photoshoot preparation, top model Gisele Bundchen publicly breastfed her son while a team of stylists did her hair and makeup. The photo drew the ire of the public, with some citing it as "a little outrageous," according to ABC News. But it didn't ruffle Gisele Bundchen's feathers who continue to advocate breastfeeding because for her, it's not right to feed baby processed food.
