Terry Flanagan of Manchester successfully defended his title against Orlando Cruz with an eight-round stoppage in Cardiff. Orlando Cruz is hoping to win. He was known as the first openly gay boxer to win a world title.
According to BBC, it was an easy fight for Terry Flanagan. He controlled the fight from start to finish and upsets the Puerto Rican Orlando Cruz.
On the undercard fight, the Welsh light-middleweight prospect Liam Williams stopped game against Hungarian Gabor Gorbics. The 24-year old Liam Williams was supposed to fight with Ahmet Patterson but unfortunately, Patterson was attacked on a training run and withdraws the fight.
For Patterson's substitute, they had Gabor Gorbics, for a late substitute Gorbics was tough on the early round of the fight. However, the constant pressure off Williams could not be handled by Gorbics in the middle rounds.
On the eight round, Williams threw a solid left hook on Gorbics' body and continue to punish him. The referee then has seen enough and waved the fight off.
Going back to the main fight, Orlando Cruz became the first professional boxer to come out as being gay and competed in the boxing arena. That following year he fought with Orlando Salido for the WBO featherweight title but stopped in the seventh round.
In the first part of the Flanagan-Cruz fight, Flanagan immediately found his range and in the fourth quarter clearly showed dominance against Cruz.
Before the sixth round, Flanagan's corner pointed out to the referee that Cruz was not throwing any punches back. There came a little comeback from Cruz but was hurt by a right hand by Flanagan and dropped him.
This is Flanagan's fourth defense of the belt which he won last July and now has 32 unbeaten pro fights, this is an awesome performance for Flanagan. Share your thought on Flanagan's win in the comment section.
