Actor Colin Farrell and director/producer Cary Fukanaga have nothing but good words for "True Detective" Season 2. Despite the show receiving bad reviews and a drop in viewership when it aired in 2015, they still think that the season deserves praises.
Colin Farrell, who played Detective Ray Velcoro in the anthology series, claims he loved working on "True Detective" Season 2. He acknowledged that it had a "lukewarm reception" from the viewers and critics. He defends that the expectations were so high due to its successful first season.
"But the experience was incredible," Colin Farrell said, according to RTE. "I had a real love for that character," the actor reiterated.
Cary Fukunaga, who served as director for "True Detective" Season 1 and executive producer for Season 2, expressed he was not disappointed by the failed season at all. He knew that the story was good.
"Whether people react to it or not in a positive way, I have no control over that," he said, according to the Hindustan Times. "Maybe if it came out this year, people would've reacted differently."
HBO owned up to the failure of "True Detective" Season 2. Then head of programming Michael Lombardo said that they forced writer Nic Pizzolatto to meet its air date deadline. "I became too much of a network executive at that point," he told the press in January, according to Independent.
HBO has not officially canceled the series though, but it is also not actively working with any writers or producers for Season 3 just yet. "When they get something that's exciting to them, we will happily do another season," new HBO programming chief Casey Bloys told Variety.
"True Detective" works as an anthology series anyway. Each season has a different story and cast. It gives the show a chance to do season after season even if it is delayed. Stay tuned for more news about this show.
