White House Develops '1600' AR App; Turns Dollar Bills Into White House History Book?

The White House developed the AR application "1600" that will turn a dollar bill into a virtual model of "the people's house." The new app is designed to get children and adults interested in the history of the "White House" that stands on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave in Washington DC

According to the Verge, the executive mansion is restricted to the public; but with a smartphone and a dollar bill, people will be able to view the mansion inside and out through the new AR application. Because of the success of AR applications like "Pokemon Go" or Snapchat's Lens Filters, The White House hopes that "1600" catch the interest of the people and help educate and inspire them, whether children and adults.

"1600" will give viewers a three-dimensional tour of the White house by using a dollar bill as a canvass for the virtual mansion, and using the smartphone's camera, viewers will be able to move around the virtual mansion to see it at any angle the wish. Also, audiences will find certain Easter eggs when they tap around the virtual mansion. One Easter egg includes seeing U.S Presidents as tiny characters.

Audiences can also view the different yearly events that happen on the White House, like the Easter Egg Roll or a State Arrival Ceremony, according to the White House blog. The whole viewing experience will also have an audio narration by White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.

In order to get the "1600" AR application running, the White House product team led by current White House product director Joshua Miller, teamed up with the White House Historical Association for the content and London-based Nexus Production for the Augmented reality experience.
Nexus production, according to Gizmodo, did the work for free. The "1600" AR application is free to download for Android and iOS devices and is available in the int the Google and Apple stores.
