New Horizon: Zero Dawn Concept Art, Other Details Revealed

Guerilla Games, the people behind games such as "Killzone," gave fans a glimpse of the world of the upcoming game "Horizon: Zero Dawn" at the Play Station Experience 2016 over the weekend.

Guerrilla boss Hermen Hulst and writer John Gonzalez took part in a panel discussion to present an "inside look at the world of Horizon Zero Dawn and the lore and machines that define it." They also provided insights about the game, its inception and development - and how it almost never came to be.

One of the revelations was that Guerrilla was initially hesitant to go through with "Horizon: Zero Dawn" because it seemed like a risk. Hulst admitted it was because the game required the developers to make new IP, which was "difficult," according to Game Spot. Eventually, the company pushed through with the game after getting pitches from about 40 to 50 gamers.

After having to choose between "Horizon: Zero Dawn" and a game that Hulst said with a laugh was "prudent" and the right choice, Guerilla settled with the former, but not without setbacks. For one, the company had to hire new developers and improve its game engine so it could make an open-world RPG that the game needed.

As for the story of "Horizon: Zero Dawn," Hulst and Gonzalez did not divulge specific details, other than it is set 1,000 years into the non-apocalyptic future and the world is dominated by mechanical beasts than the humankind. Mystery is the main theme of the game, and Gonzalez decides to leave it to the fans to uncover themselves what the actual story is about.

Besides the details, the game's concept art was also revealed. During the PSX convention, it was also revealed that Guerrilla Games has also formed a partnership with Kojima Productions, according to Kotaku. The latter is using the same engine that the former used to developed "Horizon: Zero Dawn" for its newest offering "Death Stranding."
