Sony finally revealed the information about the upcoming "The Last of Us" 2 as they revealed the main character of the sequel. The Naughty Dog announced that Ellie would be playing the main role as it was also shown in the first trailer during the PlayStation Experience 2016
The ArsTechnica reviewed the trailer, Ellie was shown playing her guitar with zombies surrounding her. "The Last of Us" 2 trailer that was revealed in the PSX 2016 was intended for the E3 2017 as the report stated.

For a quick and a very small spoiler of "The Last of Us" 2, Joel is already dead and he only appears in Ellie's memory as we have seen in the trailer. Joel will not be a playable character as the Sony announced that Ellie will be the only playable character in the 2nd sequel.
Sony has yet to announce the exact release date of "The Last of Us" 2, but it is expected to launch in 2017. Naughty Dog is set to release the 2nd installment of the series, which would be a possible game of the year contender.
