LG's four new Smartwatches and a payment system came out of the woodwork recently, but these aren't the only ones that have been moving around. Sources are saying that the company is planning to make their upcoming flagship Smartphone waterproof and do away with the "modular design" and removable battery of the G5.
ETNews, through Android Authority is speculating that the South Korean conglomerate "is now going ahead" in making the G6 waterproof. This is not an entirely new concept since other OEMs like Samsung and Sony have been several of their handhelds with the same intent. However, LG's method will make use of an "adhesive rather than tape", which rival Samsung used in their Galaxy S7 and Note 7 units. The adhesive may be affordable, but it is also "trickier", said The Investor. It added that DIC and Hitachi of Japan and Henkel and 3M of Germany are running to supply LG with the adhesives.
Aside from its waterproofing inclusions, the LG G6 might also have wireless charging technology and the company's mobile payment scheme right off the box. The source didn't expound on the issue, but if LG pushes through with their decision, the G6 will be like the Galaxy S7, a Smartphone that's waterproof and comes with wireless charging at the same time. Ditching the device's removable battery alone coincides with LG's waterproof vision since the device needs to be sealed to protect its sensitive innards from moisture.
There's no harm in jumping on a bandwagon if it would mean a boost in profit and a bigger market share. The G5 was a bitter pill to swallow despite the many add-ons it had to support its specifications. Now, the G6 aims to boost LG up in the ranks, and in a time where the demand for a waterproof Smartphone is rising to augment its user's active lifestyle.
