Parenting is going hi-tech with Amazon Alexa. The digital personal assistant has been featured with a new skill that could aid parents who are expecting the birth of their baby or trying to navigate and manage the early years of parenthood.
The What To Expect Skill provides digital-savvy parents and parents-to-be the valuable and personalized help during pregnancy and the first few years of the baby. All of the guides and inputs are based on the popular parenting and pregnancy book, "What To Expect." In keeping with the modern world, the brand has evolved with an app that can also be downloaded via iOS.
For Amazon Echo users where Alexa operates, it's even more convenient and easier as the guides and tips can be accessed with hands-free simple voice commands. "We used our proprietary data insights to create a skill to help make parents' lives easier and bring the personalized, essential content they love through voice-activated technology," Amazon Alexa's What To Expect SVP Mary Murcko said, per Business Wire. The company is making this happen in collaboration with Americord, a leading medical company.
Amazon Echo is a smart device that makes home management fully automated. Amazon Alexa is the voice system, much like the Apple's Siri. Watch how it works in the video below.
The What To Expect Skill is not the first parenting feature provided on Amazon Alexa. In September, the company also launched its My Pregnancy skill in conjunction with BabyCenter, according to Digital Trends.
With this feature, parents are able to keep track of their baby's development as well as pick up baby care tips. But using both What to Expect and My Pregnancy Skills, parents with the home management device will have endless resources. The Amazon Echo Alexa-enabled gadget is sold for $179.99 at Amazon.
