The Surface Book is one of the toughest competition to Apple's MacBook Pro and multiple reviews have compared both devices in terms of hardware and software. Microsoft may begin to surpass Apple as the best-selling laptop in the world as the Surface Book gains popularity.
When compared to the MacBook Pro, the Surface Book is lighter weighing at only 3.34 pounds vs Apple's 4.49 pounds. It is touchscreen enabled, with 10-point multi touch and Surface Pen which is a digital inking pen or stylus. The screen is also detachable with 4 modes of use.
The Surface Book also has a facial recognition feature called Windows Hello. At the same time, it is also Cortana enabled, a voice recognition personal digital assistant.
When it comes to screen resolution, the Surface Book contains a little bit higher PPI at 267 and 6M pixels compared to MacBook Pro's 227 PPI and 4.1M pixels. It has 1080p 5MP front-facing camera as well as an 8MP rear-facing autofocus camera while Apple has a 720p front-facing camera.
Perhaps the most notable difference between the two laptops, especially for gamers is the addition of NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor located discreetly inside the detachable keyboard. So as long as the screen and keyboard are attached, the GPU will work. It is also equipped with 6th generation Intel Core processor versus MacBook Pro's 5th generation Intel Core.
In terms of the battery, the Surface Book offers 70 Wh when the base and the clipboard is combined. For the i7 version, the battery lasts for 12 hours and 15 hours for the i5 version, according to Forbes.
Some reviews say that the design is more than enough for them to recommend the Surface Book for a Windows 10 laptop. The color and design looks solid and feels strong.
From its detachable screen that turns into a tablet, to its touch screen feature and Surface Pen, it is easy to see how Microsoft's Surface Book rivals Apples MacBook Pro.
