Samsung Latest News, Report: New Update To Limit Battery Capacity Of Remaining Galaxy Note 7s From 60% to 30%

It was with a heavy heart for Samsung to announce that they will be officially stopping the production of the Galaxy Note 7. This was after a series of unfortunate events led to users complaining about the device overheating and catching fire; the company had no choice but to formally end its campaign rather than to face more ridicule and negative feedbacks.

A number of sources are now telling that in line with the cessation, Samsung will roll out an update on December 19 that will prevent remaining units of the Note 7 in the US from charging. According to one information, the update will "eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices". GSM Arena, on the other hand, said that Galaxy Note 7 users in the United Kingdom will also receive the update "from 15th December" that will cap the Smartphone's battery level to 30%. A previous update, which was rolled out in October, limited its capacity to 60%, it added.

Unfortunately, not all carriers in the United States have agreed with Samsung's decision. Verizon said in a statement that they "will not be taking part" in the update since it could pose a risk to some Galaxy Note 7 users "that do not have another device to switch to." In addition, their decision not to participate has something to do with the Holidays; Verizon doesn't want affected consumers to limit or to completely seal off their ability to communicate with their families.

On the flip side, Verizon's carrier counterpart T-Mobile announced that they will be pushing the update on December 27th, while Samsung added that a similar update will be present in Canada "this week:. The update will also see the device with limited charging capacity and "prevents it from connecting to mobile networks and WiFi". Some 93% of Note 7s have been returned in the US following the recall, and they will continue to send notices of the update to the remaining few "until they accept it," Samsung said.
