A particular brand of drop-side cribs has been recalled in the U.S. after authorities noticed the popular crib design posing entrapment and suffocation risks to babies.
Officials at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urged parents to discontinue using the PT Domusindo Perdana drop-side cribs, citing the possibility of the crib's drop side rails failing to function properly or unfastening unexpectedly.
According to the Commission, when the crib is not assembled correctly it leaves spaces, which can prove dangerous to small babies as they can slip and fall through the gaps. The authorities have received three complaints related to the malfunction of the drop-side rails.
Nearly 73,000 units of the drop-side cribs in 14 different models have been included in the recall notice issued by CPSC, Tuesday, March 26. Jenny Lind Crib, Christopher Crib, Early American Crib, Scottsdale Crib, Sleigh Crib without Rosette, Sleigh Crib, Anniversary Sleigh Crib, Kristin Crib, Cameron Crib, Solid Panel Sleigh Crib, Roll Bar Convertible Crib, Anniversary Convertible Sleigh Crib, Spindle Convertible Crib and Bella 3-in-1 Crib are the models affected by the recall.
The cribs, manufactured by the Indonesian company, PT Domusindo Perdana , cost between $200 and $400 and were available in JC Penny's online shops between Jan.1998 and Dec.2008.
