A Guide To Parents To Know About Their Child's Terms Of Texting

In this age of text messaging and smartphones, it is hard for some parents to keep up with the language that their child is talking to them. It is important to be aware of it because it helps a lot with communication and believe it or not, having a deeper relationship with your child.

Teenagers are often the ones who seem to have their world with their language going on. The Huffington Post shared some of the most common text lingos that parents should know to relate to what their child would like to tell them. One of the most common texting terms is IDK, which stands for "I don't know." The next time your teenager sent you that message, you won't have to reply to them with, "What?" Instead, you could crack them up by responding, "IK," which means, "I know."

Teens love to abbreviate words and the next time you try to scold them via text, and you received a reply from them saying, RME, that means, "rolling my eyes." You will then know that they are in fact rolling their eyes on what you just said and you better come up with a good reply that means that they could be in trouble for showing disrespect.

Another confusing text is the term, 637. You would think it is some military government code but it just really means, "always and forever." How did it come to be 637? The answer is because of the word "always," has six words, "and," 3, and forever, "7." It is genius if you come to think about it.

It helps to know these terms because it does add up to you being a cool parent. Some teens would disagree, but most would have to say yes. Buzz Feed once listed the characteristics of a cool parent and perhaps you would have to agree that knowing all the text lingos of your kids should be a part of it.
