Actress Lucy Liu, famous for her role in "Charlie's Angels" alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, has announced that she is now a proud mom to a baby boy!
Mail Online reports that Liu, 46, has a new addition to her family, his son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. The overjoyed actress shared her happiness by posting the first picture of her newborn on Twitter.
"Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. In (heart emoji)," Lucy joyfully wrote of her son, who was born to her via a gestational surrogate.
Mail Online notes that a gestational carrier is someone called to carry a pregnancy for someone who cannot. The embryo is implanted in a carrier's body, usually via in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
In the photo, the new mom looks delighted to cuddle with her "new little man." Rockwell looks great too while being covered in a dog-printed blanket that matches the chair's design.
Lucy's representative told Hollywood Life, "I can confirm that Lucy Liu is the proud mother of Rockwell Lloyd Liu, brought into the world via gestational carrier. Mom and baby are healthy and happy."
Rockwell Lloyd is Lucy's first child. She told USA Today back in 2010 that she doesn't feel the pressure of marriage and motherhood. "Someone threw out the battery," she said in reference to a biological clock. "I never feel like it's too early or too late for anything. I don't ever think for me that this traditional way is the way to go for me because I haven't had a traditional life."
Although Lucy has been quiet regarding her love life, she has been linked before to various people such as businessman Noam Gottesman, actor Will McCormack and writer-film director Zach Helm.
People reports that since 1994, Lucy has been actively volunteering in UNICEF to help children around the world.
"UNICEF has given me an appreciation for life, for people and for humanity," says Liu. "It's about getting out the message that we need to help children and educate ourselves. Education is key to understanding what needs to change for these kids in the future."
Being a daughter of two Chinese immigrants, Liu said that it his background helped her value whatever she has. It also gave her the desire to help others.
"I felt like they really gave me an appreciation for the care and love we had," she says of her parents.
