'Patriots Day' Latest News: Mark Wahlberg Says 'Boston Strong' Chant Made Him Want To Do Movie

Mark Wahlberg recently talked about the new movie he stars in, "Patriots Day," and he talked about why he decided to make the movie. The flick centers on the Boston marathon bombing back in 2013.

The New York Times reported that "Patriots Day" was directed by Peter Berg and Wahlberg plays the role of a police officer. Wahlberg was born and raised in Boston. The flick is creating a lot of buzz as it has been part of the American Film Institute festival last November and was part of the National Board of Reviews Top 10 list.

Wahlberg and Berg recently talked about "Patriots Day" in an interview with the publication and the director said that he and the actor both wanted to make a film that was about love noting that despite the violence, love will rise and love will defeat evil. Although it has been three years since the Boston marathon bombing, the wounds are still fresh since one of the bombers, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was tried and convicted just last year. The bombing killed three and injured more than 200.

As for Wahlberg, he was hesitant to do "Patriots Day" because there will be other flicks that will be released regarding the same theme. Wahlberg said that he decided to do it because he wanted to make sure that he will do it the right way. Wahlberg is the youngest of nine siblings and he grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood in Boston. He had a drug-ridden as well as a crime-ridden youth. Berg and Wahlberg sat down with the residents in order to know how they want to be portrayed and what the effect of the bombing was to the children.

USA Today also reported that when he attended a 2015 game of the Boston Celtics and when his face was flashed at the jumbotron, people started to chant "Boston Strong! Boston Strong!" He pointed out that it was amazing and seeing that reaction reaffirmed his instinct of how it was important for him to show the story about the Boston marathon bombing.

"Patriots Day" will be out in December 21 in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles. A wider release is set this January 13.
