Movies portray how strong and independent women are these days. There is a surge of movies depicting strong-willed women who will stop at nothing to achieve their dreams and desires. This is definitely a positive sign, that indeed times are different now. The movie "Miss Sloane" glorifies the strength of a woman.
However, the movie "Miss Sloane" may be too much estrogen in one movie so to speak. The movie is about a Washington lobbyist who will definitely do everything she could in her power to get what she wants even at the risk of endangering her life and others around her.
According to New York Times, the movie "Miss Sloane" is about Elizabeth Sloane who is described as beautiful but scary. From a scene, the movie jumps two years back when Elizabeth was shown testifying before a Senate subcommittee. This was about breaking ethical rules by arranging a trip for a senator to Indonesia.
From this scene of the movie "Miss Sloane," Elizabeth loses her cool and blows her top off and speaks out. She then instantly faced contempt charges which could make her end up behind bars for five years.
However, some may think that such behavior is not a good representation of what a strong woman is. Elizabeth Sloane is known to be conniving and manipulative, considered to be two of the most detested traits a woman should never possess. She does have both and then some.
The movie "Miss Sloane" also did not sit well with critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes top critic, Lindsey Barr of the Associated Press, she said the movie is crafted in a different climate about a still-relevant issue but and suggested it should have been more resonant. She continued saying that the movie feels woefully out of date.
Another critic, Jacob Oller of Paste Magazine described the movie "Miss Sloane" as like a very long episode of a very boring TV drama. Joshua Starnes of ComingSoon.net said that great performances can't hide a shallow plot and ridiculous contrivances.
