Following the birth of their son three months ago, "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife, actress Sophie Hunter, have finally revealed the name of their first-born.
Christopher Carlton Cumberbatch is reportedly named after the character the actor played in "Paradise End," a BBC TV adaptation of the play by Sir Tom Stoppard, according to Mail Online.
Carlton, on the other hand, is the middle name that Benedict, his own father, Timothy, and his grandfather carry, thus upholding the tradition in the family.
On June 1, Sophie gave birth at the Portland Hospital in Westminster, while only releasing the announcement through Cumberbatch's representatives. "Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son," the statement read, according to US Weekly. "We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during these next few precious weeks."
The press got wind of the couple's engagement back in November, when they published an announcement of it in a newspaper, as snapped by The Guardian. Benedict and Sophie keep a very low-key relationship away from the press. Their wedding in February was equally low-key as far as celebrity weddings go, according to Vanity Fair.
According to another Mail Online story, the two met while filming "Burlesque Fairytales" in 2009, but Benedict was still dating his college sweetheart, actress Olivia Poulet. But more than five years and a few other partners later, they have ended up together without the public knowing about the relationship. The only time they were seen together was back in June 2014 at the French Open, the news outlet reported.
Meanwhile, Benedict is currently getting a lot of raves for starring in a stage play, "Hamlet," which is mounted at the Barbican Theater, according to Fox News. During one of the press events for "Hamlet," Benedict was caught kissing his wife, who was in the audience to watch his performance, according to Express.
After the play, which will only run until October, Benedict will soon tackle the movie adaptation of Marvel's "Doctor Strange." The studio officially unveiled some details at the D23 Expo recently, with the actor and Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio's president, presenting a video teaser to its audience, according to Vanity Fair.
The news outlet also said that Feige promises the movie will be "as weird as anything we've done." Also joining the movie are Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor, while Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen are rumored to play key roles as well.
"Doctor Strange" is expected to hit theaters in 2016.
