The "Step Up" star Jenna Dewan Tatum is joining CBS' drama series "Supergirl" as Lois Lane's little sister, Lucy Lane. Jenna will be filming several episodes in the show's debut season this fall.
The character Jenna is about to portray is described as "strong, smart and successful in her own right. She's got a history with Jimmy Olsen and she's come to town to right a previous wrong," according to Entertainment Weekly. Check out photo here.
Executive producer Ali Adler hinted that Lanen's arrival will affect the titular character Kara Zor-El aka "Supergirl" (Melissa Beneoist). Adler also revealed that they wanted to venture Lucy's history with James Olsen or at least how Lucy knows Jimmy.
The production is also planning to bring her father in and make Lucy a third wheel in the brewing romance between Kara and James. However, there will be a twist because she is a "woman's woman." Lucy and Kara will be friends. "We're not just bringing her in to purposefully create tension. She serves a larger story drive," Adler said.
During the 2015 TCA event co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg explained that Lucy and her father General Sam Lane will arrive in National City in the show's first nine episodes. He stressed that they haven't cast General Lane yet but he will definitely contribute more trouble to "Supergirl's" adventure. As for Lucy, they stressed that it's refreshing to see a female character who will not get in the way of the lead. "We're looking forward to seeing her be an ally to Kara and maybe eventually fulfill her destiny," ScreenRant has learned.
According to The Wrap,"Supergirl" revolves around the story of 24-year-old Kara, who decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and eventually became a superhero, which was destined to her in the first place. Kara was living a double life. She's a big city personal assistant who secretly protects National City from runaway aliens who escaped the Phantom Zone, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
ScreenRant reports that the former Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, played by "Desperate Housewives" actor Mehcad Brooks is the most distinguishable character in the cast. But he will be joined by Golden Globe-winner Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Jimmy's boss. Moreover, Chyler Leigh will play Kara's adoptive sister Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as the tech expert Winslow "Winn" Schott and David Harewood as CIA Agent Hank Henshaw.
"Supergirl" will premiere on Oct. 26, Monday, in a special 8:30 p.m ET slot on CBS. However, on the following week, the show will be moved to its regular time slot, it will air at 8 p.m. ET.
