Finally, game developer Arc System Works confirmed that "Double Dragon IV" is happening. The game is slated to be released on Jan. 30, 2017, in time for the 30th anniversary of the original "Double Dragon" game. Steam and PlayStation will receive the iconic beat 'em up game.
After 30 years since the original "Double Dragon" first graced the arcades and became part of the classic games, it is finally coming in a brand new edition. "Double Dragon IV" will reprise the trademark 8-bit graphics in which the series was known, per Trusted Reviews.
In 2015, Arc System Works bought the rights to the "Double Dragon" franchise from Technos Japan, which closed its business in 1996. But the original development team behind the hit series are on board, which includes Director Yoshihisa Kishimoto, composer Kazunaka Yamane, programmer Kei Oyama, and designer Koji Ogatam, according to Polygon.
The release of "Double Dragon IV" marks the first entry of the series since "Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone" in 1990. However, there are not much details revealed regarding "Double Dragon IV." But Arc System Works will roll out more information in the weeks prior to the release of the game in their official website. But one thing is notable though. "Double Dragon IV" will still feature the original theme and side-scrolling, button-smashing gameplay as seen in the teaser trailer below.
The teaser trailer of "Double Dragon IV" is not more than 2 minutes and showcases the original NES game in action. Then, at 1:09, the new gameplay footage begins, and it seems it true to the original game.
GameSpot reported that "Double Dragon IV" will carry a few extras. Plus, the main menu for the game includes Japanese mode, 2P Duel, and an unspecified "???".
"Double Dragon IV" will hit stores in January 30, 2017, for PC and PS4. For the downloadable version, "Double Dragon IV" retails at around $8 or 800 Yen, according to the official website. It currently has a T rating from ESRB and 12 from PEGI.
