NHS Lacks Adequate Services And Facilities To Address Mental Health Issues In The UK

More than half of the psychiatrists involved in the survey reported that the National Health Services (NHS) services for children and teenagers under eighteen, who were dealing with mental health issues, were insufficient. The pressure on NHS is intensifying as more patients are coming in with harmful or distraught thoughts or after physically harming themselves. This presents a huge dilemma for the health care service providers.

The Guardian reported a shocking revelation, which stated that NHS was even sending some under-eighteen patients to Scotland due to lack of accommodation in the hospitals. Complaints were registered by other specialized clinicians who also confirmed the insubstantial health facilities offered by NHS to mentally ill patients.

These discoveries make one major concern for those children and adolescents who are already in extremely poor and depressed conditions. On top of that, their psychological health should come to everyone as an alarm signal. One significant cause of the inadequate services of NHS was identified as the inconsiderate behavior and rude words of the hospital staff who often dealt with sensitive-minded patients harshly.

Another reason explained was the lack of immediate expert care and help for the patients. All these can further lead to the deterioration of the mental health of those patients. According to National Health Executive, this alarming situation raised quite a lot of professional concern where higher authorities discussed that leaving such young and vulnerable population under these circumstances was intolerable.

Furthermore, the tardiness in attending to the patients due to holding them up in cells or making them travel to other hospitals caused delayed treatments. Fortunately, services are now being improved and so is the budget for NHS by allocating more funds to the department, which deals with under-eighteen mental health issues.
