Arkansas has recently witnessed a huge increase in the number of students enrolling in charter schools, as per the latest reports. With a large range of courses available, these charter schools are open to and free for all as they are funded by the state, according to the number of students enrolled.
According to Democrat Gazette, some of the authorities at Northwest Arkansas were pleased, believing that charter schools had a great potential to revive the prevailing education system that has been in decline for the past few years. The authorities have high hopes in charter schools as thriving institutions that can induce notably positive changes within the field of mainstream education. They argued that just because it is a relatively new concept, it doesn't mean that people should automatically assume it to be better than the current system because they do not know it yet.
Dating back to 1991, charter schools are being operated nationwide. It must be mentioned that these schools came into existence after intense hard work and some negotiations. The said concept is quite innovative and inspiring for other institutional school models to follow.
Reports also confirm the excellent academic course load and high quality of these charter schools, some of which are considered among the top schools in their respective states. Another interesting factor boosting the students' morale is the monetary award given to students with exceptional performance in the school.
Despite the success of the programs, some educationalists worry that this is creating unnecessary and unhealthy competition among students and schools as test scores are becoming the sole determinant of
intelligence. Such critics argue that the aim of schools is to spread awareness and education, not to produce victors.
Furthermore, Big Story said the emphasis was also laid on parents' contribution to and support of such programs. It was also stressed that the quality of education provided is directly associated with the kind and amount of opportunities available.
