The Windows 10 may soon have a so-called "game mode" that would make running and playing games on the latest Microsoft operating system faster. Microsoft is said to be working on the feature as part of the Creators Update to Windows 10 to enhance the gaming experience of its users.
The game mode feature will work by minimizing to almost nothing the use of Windows 10's resources for running games, as well as dedicating freed up capacity for games, Windows Central reports. The feature is similar to how the Xbox One console handles games in that it allocates resources to games so that they can run at their optimum.
Twitter used WalkingCat (@h0x0d), a Microsoft enthusiast, first spotted the game mode in the leaked build 14997. Many PC gaming enthusiasts expect Windows 10 to have the feature along with the much awaited Creators Update.
As good as it sounds, Windows 10's reported game mode feature raises some questions. PC Gamer notes that it is still unclear if it would work automatically or users have to select and activate it, and whether it would support older Win32 games or be exclusive to the Universal Windows Platform or UWP.
Some are skeptical, however, if the game mode would even be part of the Creators Update to Windows 10 at all. MS Power User believes chances of the game mode coming to the Windows 10 are "fairly low," and it seems more likely to be used for the Xbox.
Microsoft is expected to release Windows 10's Creators Update in early 2017. The update promises to give Windows 10 users "new creativity and gaming experiences" through 3D and virtual reality features, as well as 4K-resolution gaming.
Members of the Windows Insider program already enjoy some of its features. More functions will be released ahead of the Creators Update's official rollout.
Will the game mode be a part of it? Let's wait and see.
