In 2012, an unsuspecting, innocent teenager in the state of Tennessee was shot during a gang shootout. In a critical condition, the girl was admitted into medical care. Unfortunately, after four years of treatment, the victim died at only 17 years of age.
The event unfolded as two gangs were involved in a shootout in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The girl, Keoshia Ford, who was of the tender age of 13 on that day, was shot in the head by one of the gang members in Highland Park, according to ABC News.
The gunshot invited attention from the people nearby and a neighbor of Ford rushed to her. She told The Fox News the girl had lost too much blood and was immediately driven to a hospital.
Due to the unfortunate incident, Ford spent years in the hospital, reliant on the constant care of a nurse. Initially, she was in a coma for a few weeks. She had severe issues related to respiration and breathing as well that's why she was constantly visiting the hospital. The nurses had to do even the simplest activities for her.
According to the reports, Ford's nurses changed her diapers and breathing tube, along with moving different parts of her body. However, in 2016, the patient had finally started to show signs of improvement and enhanced medical condition. She was able to sit in a wheelchair and respond to different voices after recognizing them.
Despite the apparent improvement, Keoshia gave up her battle to live. Reports indicated that Ford used to be a very cheery person, always smiling. With a very bubbly aura, Keoshia was a very enthusiastic girl who loved basketball. Even though she was not saved, the gang member who had shot the innocent bystander was sentenced to a two years long imprisonment.
