Actress Eva Amurri has opened up about a traumatic incident involving her newborn son, Major. A night nurse accidentally dropped the infant on the floor, which resulted in a cracked skull. The actress admits what happened has brought her depression and guilt and she's learning to deal with it.
In a post on her official site, Happily Eva After, the daughter of Susan Sarandon wrote that it took her some time to talk about what happened because of trauma. Amurri is putting the blame on no one, citing that it had been a freak accident. But it did rock the actress to the core and she has already let go of the night nurse taking care of her child.
"It's nearly impossible for me to trust anyone but myself to take care of Major now," Amurri wrote. She also revealed she gets triggers and panic attacks when she hears her baby cry.
"My heart races and tears spring to my eyes," she revealed. "Sometimes I get dizzy spells," she added.
She also said that she has no appetite and has trouble sleeping. "My instinct tells me that I have some form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, possibly linked to some form of Postpartum Depression," Amurri further shared.
She told readers of her site that she's taking a much-needed time off to deal with what she's feeling. According to New York Daily News, the actress will be seeking treatment.
A baby's cracked skull can lead to lifelong problems that can affect his speech, vision, hearing or taste and even his personality, according to John Hopkins Medicine. But Major has had tests by doctors who assured the mom that the baby is going to be fine. The injury didn't result in any damage to the brain and the bleeding was isolated, Amurri shared.
Major, who was born last October, has also been showing good signs he is developing well and normally. Amurri has another child, Marlowe, 2, with husband and sports broadcaster Kyle Martino.
