Parents having twins or multiple babies face twice the challenge compared to raising single babies. But lots of parents have survived with twins and successfully doing so involves plenty of preparations and a lot of flexibility.
The first thing to remember when caring for twins is that parents have to take care of themselves as well. Skipping meals and sleep will only rob mom or dad of the energy they need to tackle two babies. According to Pop Sugar, enlist help from other family members, neighbors or friends for things like meal preparations or babysitting for a few hours.
Parents will have to specify on what kind of help they will require from others. Don't be afraid to assign extended family members and friends the tasks, such as doing the groceries or walking the dog. Most people are aware that parents with twins are dealing with a handful and thus will happy to help out.
Be flexible about the babies' schedule and acknowledge that it might take a while to be in sync in the first few months. Planning ahead, however, will help streamline daily routines especially since twin babies don't demand milk or sleep at the same time.
One mom had a small refrigerator and bottle warmer in the bedroom to cut down the time she needs to go up and down the house to prepare or warm up the baby's milk. She was able to shave off 30 to 45 minutes of time by having most of what was needed where the baby sleeps, according to Huffington Post.
Sometimes, having two of everything is impractical and not necessary, according to The Star. There are also other baby stuff that can be bought used or as second-hand, especially if the twins will outgrow this within a year.
Lesser baby items also help do away with the clutter at home. Parents will need to stay organized for their own physical and mental welfare. A stuffy room will only take space or bring disorder, which will require more cleaning when that energy can be spent on taking care of the babies.
