Hulu and CBS have come to an agreement regarding the network's shows being available on the streaming service. This agreement is part of Hulu's upcoming TV channel service.
CBS is the most-watched television network in the United States and the deal of the network and Hulu is said to be the package to go against Dish Network's SlingTV, DirecTV Now, and Sony PlayStation Vue. These services are offering streaming of traditional broadcast and cable TV channels.
The chief executive of Hulu, Mike Hopkins, said in a statement that the way to build a successful live TV service is to have viewers' favorite sports and shows. Some of the sports show that will be streamed on Hulu are NFL football and NCAA championship series basketball games. Live events such as the Grammys will also be part of the agreement, Los Angeles Times reported.
Entertainment Weekly also reported that CBS and Hulu are to stream more CBS-owned channels in the future. Hulu subscribers will also have on-demand access to the flagship shows of CBS such as "60 Minutes" and "The Big Bang Theory." CBS President of Television Networks Distribution, Ray Hopkins, said in a statement that they are pleased to make CBS available on Hulu. Hopkins added that their deal with Hulu is another significant step in their strategy to deliver their content to viewers whenever and wherever they are.
Despite striking a deal with Hulu, CBS will still use their own streaming service, which is CBS All Access. CBS All Access has around 1 million subscribers.
CBS also has made their programming available to Sony PlayStation Vue and the network is said to be planning to make their programs also available to the Google YouTube TV channel service. CBS Sports and Pop being available on Hulu might cost consumers around $40 per month.
Hulu recently had a deal with Disney last year making more than 50 classical movies, animated and live-action available on the streaming service. The live TV streaming service of Hulu will launch in the next few months.
