The year 2015 appears to be the time for divorce announcements in Hollywood. In what could be described as yet another devastating news, Avril Lavigne and husband Chad Kroeger announced their separation after two years of marriage on September 2, according to Entertainment Tonight.
"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," wrote Lavigne in her Instagram account. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
Lavigne and the Nickelback frontman began dating in March 2012. The two met when Kroeger became one of the artists included in the list of songwriters to help Lavigne complete her fifth record. The closeness of Lavigne and Kroeger turned to romance by July. The public got the shock of their lives when the two announced their engagement by August. Their marriage took place at a grand medieval castle in France held on Canada Day.
While the two are both musicians, what made their romance interesting is the very strong fan base they both have. Ironically, both Kroeger and Lavigne also elicited so much hostility from the public for the very same reasons their fans love them. Hence, their marriage inspired the most widely speculated romance in Canada.
"(It) was an odd thing when Chad and Avril hooked up, because it was almost too perfect," shared Roz Weston, a reporter from Global's nightly ET Canada via The Hamilton Spectator. He added, "They both had a really hardcore fanbase, but they also had people who just viciously disliked them. And the two of them getting together - you almost expected this wormhole to open up in the Canadian universe." Weston added, "They were the perfect couple just for all the wrong reasons."
While Weston shared that the pairing was odd, he also admitted that both Lavigne and Kroeger changed into better people during their romance. He said, "Avril Lavigne became very open. She was smiling so much more than she ever had." Weston added, "I genuinely think that when Avril was with Chad, at least for the beginning of it, it was the happiest I've ever seen her, and I've seen Avril Lavigne since the first day she ever stepped foot on stage."
