Ivanka Trump's Child Care Plan Gets Congress Push, Covers Tax Deductions For Families With Children Under 4-Years-Old

Ivanka Trump's child care plan is getting a big push from Congress. She proposed tax credit reforms under child care expenses while campaigning for her father, Donald Trump, during the elections and it looks like the ruling party are already on the case.

Reports say that Republican lawmakers have started discussions about the reforms days before the new administration takes office. Ways & Means staffers are said to have received a phone call from Trump's transition team specifically with regards the budget for child care.

Politico got the scoop about the phone call and subsequent meeting that apparently happened last Thursday, Jan. 12. "It was a very cordial meeting, and the idea of doing this child care effort and having that be a part of the upcoming tax reform legislation was very warmly received by the Ways and Means folks," a spokesperson told the news outlet.

Trump's proposal is supposed to cover tax deductions or rebates for expenses of fchild care for families with children under 4-years-old and even elderly parent care. Apart from the tax reforms, employers providing ample child care privileges to its staff, such as extended paid maternity leaves, could also get incentives, according to Vanity Fair.

Think Progress, however, noted that this child care tax reform plan might still be ineffective. Tax deductions or rebates, which can be availed only once a year, offer little help for American families who are low-income earners.

According to the site, what government needs is to put a focus ensuring that parents will be able to find decent and efficient child care facilities at an affordable cost, instead of tax reforms. As it is, there are not a lot of low-cost child care facilities. If they are, however, it's either over-populated with children or lack the proper amenities.
