Hollywood actress Uma Thurman's custody battle against ex-partner French financier Arpad Busson is starting off on a rough path. A judge handling their case in a Manhattan court has berated the former couple for being unable to settle their issues and co-parent amicably for the sake of their 4-year-old daughter Luna.
A psychologist has testified that Thurman and her ex shouldn't be in the same room together. Busson has accused Thurman of having serious mental illness and has used three types of drugs to treat her anxiety, depression and insomnia. He also didn't favor her choice for Luna's private school in Brooklyn.
Thurman, on the other hand, has accused Busson of being a bad parent as he would often times leave their daughter in the care of nannies whenever Luna is with her father. She is asking the court for visitation and travel restrictions against Busson, especially since he travels to London and Bahamas regularly and would like to bring Luna along.
"At this point I don't think that these people should be in the same room together with Luna until they have a little more ability to kind of be comfortable with each other," psychologist Dr. Sara Weiss said, according to People. The judge, however, said that the ex-couple should be able to work things out like "reasonable people."
Thurman and Busson had an on and off relationship that started in 2007. They were engaged a couple of times but never went ahead with a wedding.
According to Page Six, the couple had Luna while they were broken up and eventually reconciled. They parted ways for good in 2014 and since then, they have been embroiled in a bitter custody battle that has become a toxic environment for their 4-year-old daughter.
Thurman has two older kids with ex-husband Ethan Hawke -- Maya, 18, and Levon, 14. Busson has two kids as well with former partner Elle Macpherson -- Flynn, 18, and Cy, 14. These extended family relations have made the custody battle more complicated, according to the judge.
