US Malls Banning Unaccompanied Minors Due Amid Unruly Disturbances, Gatherings Ignited On Social Media

Rowdy behavior displayed by teenagers has lead to the decision of banning them from entering malls. This was followed by a recent scene caused outside the Westfield shopping mall in Culver City, which attracted quite a lot of attention.

The unpleasant scene unfolded as rumors spread like wildfire in the mall that there was a gunman. This created a great chaos and stirred a strong response from the nearby police as well. But upon the police's arrival, it was discovered there was no potential shooter inside the shopping center but a group of around 200 teens had gathered outside the mall and started a brawl, Los Angeles Times explained.

After hours of investigation by the authorities that resulted in a lockdown, it was found the teenagers had planned this activity to cause disturbance and had coordinated via social media. However, Culver City's mall was not the first shopping center to experience these kinds of troubles caused by teenagers.

It has been a norm for teenage boys to roam around the malls and no one seemed to mind their presence. But now it looks like the merchants and the shoppers are not that enthusiastic to have them in the malls.

According to ABC News, due to the reports of these incidents occurring in malls across the country, around 100 shopping centers have placed restrictions and instituted curfews on unaccompanied minors. These restrictions, as well as some new rules and regulations, are enacted on Friday and Saturday nights due to the influx of shoppers.

Meanwhile, many citizens have reacted against this supposedly unjustifiable ban. Critics argued the illicit behavior displayed by a small minority should not decide the fate of a large majority. In their perspective, it was largely unfair to ban all minors just because a few of them chose not to abide the laws.
