Kate Middleton's visit to the Early Years Parenting Unit (EYPU) of the Anna Freud National Center for Children and Families last week indicated her concern for children and their families. The Duchess of Cambridge's presence at the Center has somehow helped draw the attention to the mental health issues among children.
The Center has emphasized the importance of early intervention and of the role played by the whole family in helping children in vulnerable situations. Knowing this, Kate Middleton met with the parents and listened to their experiences in the treatment program. The Center's EYPU program targets parents with personality disorders, and their children who are under five-years-old.
The ultimate aim of EYPU's treatment program is to keep families together by helping parents become more emotionally mature, according to Look To The Stars. The Duchess personally witnessed the families participate in the therapy session, which aimed at promoting the parent-child relationship.
The Anna Freud website indicated that the Center has been operating in the United Kingdom for more than 60 years. The Duchess has been its patron since 2016 and has shown her commitment to promote the young people's mental wellbeing.
"It is my hope that Her Royal Highness's work in this field will serve as a catalyst for all and that we are able to achieve the quality of care that children and their families so richly deserve," The Center's Chief Executive Officer Peter Fonagy stated.
The Duchess of Cambridge commended mothers who were able to turn their lives and made themselves better parents despite their emotional issues and struggles, as per Telegraph. Some of these women had to face difficult upbringings and depression before joining the Center.
The Duchess acknowledged the challenges of parenting and admitted that it can be tough, especially for these women. Meanwhile, a 19-year-old mother who is getting therapy from the Center for her anxiety problems said she has already noticed a difference in herself after four months.
